Happy Gas, an exhibition of Sarah Lucas’s work, is on show at Tate Britain. The show features her work produced over the last 35 years and is supported by Burberry. Lucas is known for her bold responses to issues surrounding fatness, femininity, and fake news. Her work challenges mainstream rhetoric surrounding sex, gender, and class issues and is considered witty social commentary at its best.

The exhibition features almost-human sculptures called “bunnies,” made of gangly stuffed tights, which splay themselves over chairs with an air of cockiness and promiscuity. These playful figures are displayed in a pack-like formation that strongly impacts the audience. Lucas humanises and personifies everyday objects like the chair, encouraging visitors to examine their bodily similarities.

This larger-than-life show is a must-see, with visitors compelled to inspect and interrogate her pieces from every angle. It encourages self-reflection and sociological critique, making it a thought-provoking experience.
