For my last night in San Francisco I was lucky enough to secure a table at State Bird Provisions, which in only two years has become one of the hottest restaurants in the USA.
Run by husband-and-wife owners and chefs Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski, the food is modern American, with much of the food brought around on carts or carried on trays – a rather clever take on dim sum.
Pegboard walls and ceilings and the concrete floor and walls lend a raw, industrial edge to the space and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. The food is inventive yet utterly delicious – my favourites being bread crumbed and fried cauliflower with jalapeño and mini sourdough pancakes with pecorino and ricotta.
This is definitely a place to check out if you are ever in San Francisco, but a word of advice – book early to avoid disappointment!
