Shangri-La

The Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard

Yesterday I was lucky enough to stay at the new Shangri-La Hotel just a day after it officially opened its doors. Housed on floors 34 to 52 of Renzo Piano’s iconic Shard, the hotel, which is Shangri-La’s first property in the UK, has been designed by Hong Kong based Interior designer and architect Steve Leung. The elegant simplicity of the Lobby on the 35th floor is carried through into the spacious and luxurious rooms on levels 36-51 with their floor to ceiling windows. My room, which was on the 48th floor, offered up the most incredible views across London towards St Paul’s, Tate Modern and the London Eye. While spectacular by day, the view really came to life as dusk fell and London unfolded in lights. Unfortunately the swimming pool and Gŏng, a bar on level 52 designed by Andre Fu, another Hong Kong based designer, are not open until the end of this month but then that is all the more reason to return to this incredible hotel.
