Seeing Around Corners – Turner Contemporary

The Turner Contemporary is a beautiful art gallery situated on the seafront in Margate designed by the architect David Chipperfield. Its current exhibition – Seeing Round Corners: The Art of the Circle – is the first major exhibition to explore the centrality of the circle in art. Featuring more than 100 works – from 3000BC to the present day, the exhibition encompasses sculpture, film, painting, design, installation, performance and photography, with works by leading historical and contemporary artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Paul Nash, Barbara Hepworth, Rebecca Horn, David Shrigley, Bridget Riley and Edmund de Waal. The exhibition explores the ways in which artists have gravitated to the universal and recurring form of the circle and explores the significance and symbolism of the circle and sphere in art and culture. The exhibition is conceived and co-curated by artists David Ward and Jonathan Parsons and the collection of objects they have brought together provide a thought provoking exhibition which is well worth seeing if you find yourself in Margate.
