Max Lamb Milan 2015 installation

Salone del Mobile 2015

Last week, Tomorrow PR decamped to Milan for the annual Salone del Mobile. It was a busy week working on SCP’s 30th anniversary exhibition staged by Michael Marriott in the emerging San Gregorio District and Japan Handmade’s and OeO Studio’s latest collection launch presented at the TATRAS showroom in Zona Tortona. However, we were also able to explore a number of installations throughout the city including Philippe Malouin’s ‘Movements’ for Caesarstone at the Palazzo Serbelloni, complete with its own monumental, and much-photographed set of swings and Nilufar Depot, a vast and hugely inspiring warehouse showcasing contemporary and Mid Century design pieces that complements the gallery’s more refined space on via della Spiga. Wallpaper* Magazine once again raised presented their incredible Handmade exhibition, this time taking over an entire shopping arcade in the San Gregorio area. But for us the highlight had to be Max Lamb’s ‘Exercises in Seating’ staged in a former garage space in the newly formed 5vie design district. Max presented over forty of his seating designs and prototypes in a Stonehendge-like ‘seat circle.’ It was a visually striking, thoughtful and impactful installation showcasing the designer’s exploration of materials and creative process. And at its best, that is what Salone is all about.
