Forest of Light - Sou Fujimoto for Cos

Salone 2016: Cos – Forest of Light

One of the most talked about exhibitions in Milan this year, and one of my personal highlights, was “Forest of Light” – an immersive installation by architect Sou Fujimoto for COS that utilised only mirrors, lights, and specially composed sounds. The showcase took place inside an abandoned 1930s cinema, where beams of light responded to visitor’s movements, with fog and mirrors blurring the lines of perception. The overall effect gave the illusion of an infinite and immersive landscape, with the spotlights appearing as towering trees. I loved Sou Fujimoto’s Serpentine Pavilion in 2013 and this Milan installation was a mesmerising and poetic experience that made visitors stop, stare, interact and reflect.
