RealCraft at Mint – London Craft Week

The third edition of London Craft Week took place last week and I visited one of my favourite design stores in London, Mint to take a look at their RealCraft exhibition. Featuring new handcrafted products selected for London Craft Week, Mint collaborated with Jennifer Hier and Eva Schlechte from Studio Gutedort on a range of products formed during a series of paper, textile and ceramics workshops for the Iraq Al Amir Women’s Cooperative Association in Jordan. The exhibition also included a new Caribe collection in collaboration with German designer Sebastian Herkner and Ames Sala, featuring vibrant furniture made from recycled brightly-woven plastic. The Ames Sala by Sebastian Herkner collection is produced by small, mostly family- or women-run businesses located in different regions of Colombia that use traditional craft techniques. Special pieces by Joel Parkes include hand-carved wooden bowls and vessels which highlight the imperfections to form beautifully crafted one-off designs. having launched their collection in Milan last month, I was really pleased to see Hand Stitched by Iota – a collection of beautiful objects hand made by Bedouin women in Israel.
