exterior of Primeur restaurant London

Primeur, London

Located on a sleepy residential street in the Canonbury area of London, Primeur is a true neighbourhood gem. The owners, chef David Gingell and manager Jeremie Cometto-Lingenheim, have restored a former garage and created an airy, relaxed space with large communal dining tables. The Barnes Motors sign on the exterior and sliding garage doors make the space feel open, welcoming and unpretentious. Though its interiors are rustic and handcrafted, Primeur has fully embraced the digital age. The web site connects you directly to their Instagram page where the chalkboard menus of small, seasonal plates are posted daily, together with complementing wines, mostly natural and organic. Reservations are done strictly via Twitter – something which put me off at first, but turned out to be easy, quick and convenient. Primeur is definitely a destination restaurant and not in the most accessible of locations, but the excellent food, atmosphere and service make it worth the journey. Imagining dinner on beautiful spring evening, garage doors open to the street makes me eager for a return visit.
