While wandering around Soho in New York I stumbled across Pop Up Flea at 82 Mercer Street between Spring and Broome. Open for one weekend only it featured a collection of fantastic brands such as Shinola, Todd Snyder, Red Wing Heritage and Filson brought together under one roof. The space even had a pop up Harry’s barbershop. The Pop Up Flea gives each brand free reign to design their own miniature store, bring merchandise that is hard to find elsewhere and show up to peddle their wares and meet their fans.
I was lucky enough to be introduced to one of the brains behind the project, Michael Williams the blogger behind the fantastic blog A Continuous Lean who explained that the concept of the Pop Up Flea is simple – to bring together an ever-changing collection of new and vintage menswear goods in a temporary meeting of the menswear minds.
When I was there the space was packed with what one felt was a very loyal fan base. I even managed to get a beard trim and pick up some great Christmas gifts. I learned that the Pop Up Flea had staged an event in London. I hope they do another.
