The Mondrian London Hotel

This week I decided to check in and check out the new Mondrian Hotel, which has just opened adjacent to the Thames between Waterloo and Blackfrairs bridges. The hotel in the iconic Sea Containers House – which I learnt during my stay was always intended to be a hotel –is just a short walk from the Tate Modern and the cultural delights of the South Bank. On entering the hotel you are left in no doubt that it is Tom Dixon’s hand at work as a dramatic curved, handcrafted copper hull sweeps through the space. The highlight of my stay has to be Dandelyan, the hotel bar and the latest outpost of Ryan Chetiyawardana (of the no-perishables White Lyan bar in Hoxton). It serves a fantastical array of cocktails inspired by four key elements: vegetals, minerals, cereals and florals. The Mondrian is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and makes for a welcome addition to London’s South Bank.
