Marc Quinn: Drawn from Life

Marc Quinn: Drawn from Life

Marc Quinn: Drawn from Life is an exhibition of twelve new sculptures by Marc Quinn, a body of work titled All About Love, at the wonderful Sir John Soane’s Museum. The twelve life-cast sculptures portray Quinn and his muse, dancer Jenny Bastet, and seek to convey the adoration, endurance and frustration that is present in any intimate relationship by showing the figures as they embrace one another. Sitting atop art crates labelled fragile, the sculptures are fragmented to only reveal legs and torsos, appearing frail and delicate to speak of the fragility of romantic relationships.

Marc Quinn gives a breathe of fresh air to the classical pieces in display at the museum by showing his contemporary art side by side with ancient pieces from Sir John Soane’s collection—an innovative way to make the museum more relevant to today’s culture.

The exhibition is not to be missed; Quinn’s sculptures feel instantly at home and recall the fragments of the antique sculptures scattered throughout the museum.
