Gemma Holt - Arranging Marbles

LDF 15: Pieces

On Saturday I joined Benjamin Kempton for a curated tour of some of the hidden gems of the London Design Festival. The tour was organized by SideStory a new travel company offering imaginative cultural experiences. One of our stops was the wonderful Sir John Soane’s Museum and a small exhibition called Pieces curated by design studio Study O Portable. The exhibition which featured work by Paul Elliman, Gemma Holt, Sam Jacob, Peter Marigold and Study O Portable that each responded to and explored the concept of the fragment. Inspired by the Museum’s collection of fragments from ancient Greece and Rome arranged in the Breakfast Room, and amongst the permanent collection in the Museum’s Crypt. I particularly liked Gemma Holt’s ‘Arranging Marbles’ that explored the beauty of negative space. But for SideStory I am sure I would have missed this small but perfectly formed show and that would have been a real shame.
