LDF 15: Design House at Mallett

My personal highlight during this year’s London Design Festival was DESIGN HOUSE, an exhibition from the venerated antiques dealer Mallet championing three contemporary design brands creating heirloom pieces of the future. Walking into their incredible townhouse on Dover Street, its hard not feel far removed from the massive trade shows and group exhibitions that dominate LDF – this is certainly the most serene and refined environment to wander and discover an edited selection of objects. Upstairs, the Milanese jewellry house Pomellato showed off their most precious pieces and a new colourway just for the exhibition and the Brooklyn-based company Calico seemed tailor-made for the townhouse installing its stunning new marbleised, continuous pattern wallpaper. But it was the Mexican silver specialists Tane on the ground level that was most impressive. Their collaboration with designer Bodo Sperlein included over 40 designs from lighting to tea sets which pushed the boundaries of traditional silver and illustrated the process of hand making many of the pieces on view.
