Julio Le Parc: Form into Action at the Perez Art Museum, Miami

The Julio Le Parc: Form into Action exhibition at the Perez Art Museum Miami is reminiscent of a children’s playground, showcasing over 100 works from the artist’s playful explorations of light, movement and distortion of perception. Being a fan of Kinetic Art, I was delighted to explore what felt like a fun house where things were not what they seemed. Geometric abstractions created movement, huge installations sprang to life, kaleidoscopic mirrors prismed the space, and acrylic paintings on blacked-out walls dripped with colour, pattern and shape. Julio Le Parc, an Argentinian artist and one of the instigators of Op Art, invites visitors to move, not around the space but rather into the works, to engage with his energetic, colourful and hypnotic collection. After a full two-hour visit, I left the exhibition feeling refreshed and optimistic, reminding myself that fun and play is certainly not only for the children.

Julio Le Parc: Form into Action at the Perez Art Museum. Until 19th March.
