Heal’s Modern Craft Market London

This weekend past I headed over to Heal’s on London’s Tottenham Court Road to check their Modern Craft Market. First launched in 2014 this two-week celebration of the handmade, it showcases the work of the best contemporary makers working in the UK today. As part of the market, furniture designers Chris Eckersley, Sarah Kay, Gareth Neal, William Warren, Carl Clerkin and Koji Katsuragi, had taken over the store’s front window for the Great Heal’s Bodging Race. Bodging is a hands-on craft that utilises unseasoned wood and traditional Windsor chair making techniques to create unique, one-off designs. One of the pieces made (as chosen by press and customers) will go into production exclusively for sale at the store later in the year. There is also a collection of ceramics, soft furnishings and glassware on sale as part of the market. My favourite was the stall by Stephanie Hosmer, also known as ‘Miss Papercut‘, with her collection of intricate papercut designs, including “I Will Always Love You” especially for Valentine’s Day.

Heal’s Modern Craft Market, 196 Tottenham Court Road, London W1T 7PJ. Until February 15.
