Haeckels-of-Margate

Haeckels of Margate

This weekend, I took a day trip to check out The Turner Contemporary in Margate. Though the David Chipperfield-designed museum was spectacular, what really surprised me about the visit were the many cool local shops and restaurants springing up all over this regenerating seaside town. The museum has certainly helped inject some new energy and it was great to take a stroll and check out the beautiful Haeckels store which sells skincare products and perfumes made from seaweed and other locally harvested ingredients. Part apothecary, part science lab with oversized glass beakers and all products made on site, the shop has a dark, moody and decidedly old school feel. Haeckels makes everything from soaps to body wash to beard oil. I fell for the packaging and incredible dark glass bottles and picked up some seaweed bath salts and Juniper incense, taking a home a little piece of Margate with me. Watch out for this brand, I have no doubt it will be popping up at Liberty any day now.
