Formafantasma presents De Natura Fossilium

Another definite highlight of Salone del Mobile 2014 was by Italian born, Eindhoven based duo Formafantasma. Called De Natura Fossilium, the new body of work, presented by Gallery Libby Sellers at the imposing Palazzo Clerici, was an exploration of lava from the Mount Etna and Stromboli regions of Sicily, two of the last active volcanoes in Europe. Laval basalt was once a prized material but has fallen out of favour in recent decades; so Formafantasma set themselves the task of turning laval materials into a 35 piece collection that includes beautiful containers, stools, coffee tables and a rather unusual series of clocks. I only hope Gallery Libby Sellers brings this exciting show to London.
