Last night I popped down to the Design Museum to the opening of one of my favourite annual design events – Designs of the Year. This exhilarating exhibition is the Design Museum’s exhibition of the most innovative, interesting and forward-looking design of all kinds, from around the world. Now in its 7th year, Designs of the Year 2014 features international design stars such as Zaha Hadid, David Chipperfield and Miuccia Prada, alongside crowd-funded start ups and student projects.
My favourite pieces in the show are the Citymapper App, which I use almost daily, the Bodleian Library Chair designed by the super talented Barber Osgerby, a cast iron façade for the Paul Smith Store on Albemarle Street by 6A Architects and the fantastic FRAC Centre in Orléans, France designed by Jakob + MacFarlane. This is a must see show for anyone who loves design in all its forms.
Designs of the Year at the Design Museum. Until 25th August.
