Collective Design New York

Collective Design New York

Now in its third year, Collective Design is a great new addition to New York’s design calendar. I had the chance to visit this week during NYC X Design, the city’s ever growing design week which runs alongside ICFF and Frieze. Unlike many other fairs, Collective set out to change venues with each iteration, which must keep things fresh and interesting. This year was hosted at Skylight Clarkson Square in Soho and featured a nice edit of 30 international galleries showing modern and contemporary collectable design, from ceramics to jewellery to furniture. Walking into Collective on a Sunday morning, it was refreshing to find a beautifully edited and presented selection of pieces. I especially loved Todd Merrill Studio’s incredible Swivel Thrones, produced together with Polish street artist OLEK who has created painterly crocheted patterns and words on a series of high backed chairs. R & Company’s vast stand had amazing pieces by Wendell Castle, The Haas Brothers and David Wiseman, among many others. The beautiful Noguchi Secret Garden installation in the back of the space also provides a nice moment of zen.
