Dali Theatre Museum

Dali Theatre Museum, Figueres

Last week, I visited the Dali Theatre Museum in Figueres, Spain. The museum houses the largest and most diverse collection of works by Salvador Dali, from his artistic experiences – impressionism, futurism, cubism to his own surrealist creations, down to the works of the last years of his life. The museum is constructed inside the ruins of the former Municipal Theatre which was destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. The space itself is spectacular – oversized eggs adorn the roof, while golden sculptures line the red walls of the façade of the building. Everything in the museum has been created and designed by Dali, giving the visitor a real insight into his unique outlook on life. The museum also displays a selection of works by other artists collected by Dali, including Marcel Duchamp and Antoni Pixot.
